About

The webinar, led by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in partnership with the United Nations Office of Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), will deliberate upon the challenging notion: ‘Can disasters be avoided?

It will analyze approaches being advanced to prevent hazards from turning into disasters, look at promising examples from a range of countries and discuss how ‘out-of-the-box’ thinking is helping countries and communities prevent adverse fallouts from hazard events.

The Building Resilient Urban Systems webinar series supports implementation of the Political Declaration of the Midterm Review of the Sendai Framework, which was adopted by countries at the UN General Assembly in May. MCR2030 has mobilized 28 national governments and 1,560 local governments committed to strengthening disaster and climate resilience at the sub-national level. The global initiative is a ‘who’s who’ of partners with unmatched expertise and experience of supporting greater urban resilience.
