National consultation workshop: Mid-Term Review (MTR) of the implementation of the Sendai Framework (SF) 2015-2030 for the Arab Region in Tunisia
22 March 2022: The UNDRR Regional Office for the Arab States organized a two-day National consultation workshop: Mid-Term Review (MTR) of the implementation of the Sendai Framework (SF) 2015-2030 for the Arab Region in Tunisia in partnership with the Ministry of Environment. The consultation brought more than 30 official actors and stakeholders involved in Disaster Risk Reduction and the mid-term review of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction to put forward recommended measures to accelerate progress towards achieving them by 2030. The rights concerns, and insufficiently responsive institutions and governance systems.
“This review will provide an opportunity to assess national progress, with the active participation of civil society and the private sector and we are grateful for the support of the Ministry of Environment for conducting this important workshop”. Said Fadi Janan, UNDRR ROAS Deputy Chief.
It is worth noting that the national consultation workshop was an opportunity for the participating municipalities to carry out the registration procedures in the Making Cities Resilient 2030 Program (MCR 2030), where 6 municipalities joined so far, namely Bizerte, Djerba, Houmt Souk, Mater, Ain Dirham, Bousalem, and Tabarka.
The implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (SFDRR) is impacted to a large extent due to the increasing social vulnerabilities in the region as a result of climate change and the pandemic among other aspects. This, in turn, has increased the vulnerability of people to disaster, climate risk tremendously and hindered the aspired achievement of sustainable development by 2030, a vicious cycle that requires accelerating all-of-society concerted efforts in the remaining seven years of the lifespan of this global framework.
This consultation came to facilitate stocktaking on progress, identifying changes in context, and developing recommendations for prioritized, accelerated, and integrated cooperation and action. The outcome of this consultation will support the preparation of the voluntary national report for Tunisia by its Government and the regional report for the mid-term review of the Sendai Framework in the Arab Region prepared by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction.
