Access to a range of multimedia resources related to disaster risk reduction, including news releases, photos, videos, and other materials.

The media plays an integral role in disaster risk reduction. It can help communities understand the disaster risks they face, mobilize early action in response to early warnings by communicating alerts to at-risk populations, and it can help build resilience by highlighting disaster risk reduction solutions and success stories.

In addition, the media has an important role to play as a stakeholder in DRR processes by holding governments to account against global commitments, participating in global and regional platforms, and reporting on progress in the implementation of the Sendai Framework.

Resources for journalists

The public's understanding of disaster risk reduction (DRR) and response initiatives is greatly aided by journalists. Strong writing and research abilities are necessary for effective disaster reporting, but it's also important to have a firm grasp of the fundamental terms and ideas surrounding disaster risk reduction.

Risk communication
Risk communication is integral to disaster risk reduction. Failing to communicate about risk effectively – indeed, failing to communicate at all – can fuel rumour, erode trust, hamper solutions, and even increase risk.
