Republic of Korea and UNDRR sign memorandum of understanding.

Presenting Memorandum of Understanding
UNDRR

GENEVA, 04 September 2023 – The UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Disaster Reduction, Mami Mizutori, and the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Korea, Seong deok Yun , today signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding, in which the Republic of Korea committed to supporting UNDRR. This multi-year unearmarked agreement is an important source of core funding for UNDRR. Core funding is key, allowing UNDRR to focus on its highest priority areas and to be flexible as needs change and opportunities arise.

Republic of Korea is not only a long-standing and valued donor to UNDRR but it also is a host country to UNDRR Regional Office for Northeast Asia & Global Education & Training Institute (ONEA GETI).

About the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR)

UNDRR is the lead agency in the United Nations on disaster risk reduction. It provides leadership, expertise and tools to enable governments, intergovernmental organisations, civil society and the private sector to better understand and reduce risks before they become disasters. UNDRR’s work is guided by the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, which aims to achieve a substantial reduction in disaster risk and losses by the year 2030.
