Launch of the R!SE Initiative
UN Headquarters or follow online at http://webtv.un.org/
The R!SE initiative is an ambitious global response to a daunting global challenge, a new way of collaborating, to unlock the potential for public and private sector actors who are ready and willing to make a step forward and take leadership on disaster risk reduction.
The overall goal of the initiative is to make all investments risk-sensitive. R!SE will facilitate the exchange of experience and knowledge to implement tangible disaster risk reduction projects through 8 streams of activities: Strategies for global business, risk metrics for economic forecasting, industry sector certification, education, principles for responsible investing, resilience of cities, insurance, and resilience of UN programming.
The UNISDR's R!SE Initiative will be launched in New York this coming Monday, 19th May 2014 in the presence of the Deputy Secretary-General, Mr Jan Eliasson, and SRSG Margareta Wahlström, with leaders from global business, academia, the UN and member states.
The event will be streamed online via UN TV - please join at 3pm EST for the main event. After the main event, the participants will also be introduced to the Tangible Earth, featuring risk data and case studies from the UNISDR's Global Assessment Reports, presented by Professor Takemura from ELP.
