WCC-3 focuses on how humankind can benefit from the advances in climate prediction and information services to manage climate-related risks as a way of developing resilience through adaptation. Disaster Risk Reduction is a key component of the agenda and UNISDR is directly involved in a variety of events, such as the Opening of the Conference and Plenary Session 4 on Climate Extremes, Warning Systems and Disaster Risk Reduction.

The Report is the first biennial global assessment of disaster risk reduction prepared in the context of the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (ISDR). The Report was coordinated by UNISDR, in collaboration with UNDP, the World Bank, UNEP, WMO, UNESCO, the ProVention Consortium, the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute and a wide range of other ISDR partners.

19th seminar of health in emergencies and disasters entitled “Hospitals Safe from disasters in ECO countries” was a seminar with cooperation of University of Tehran, ISDR, ECO, ASRC, UNDP and WHO, held in Tehran. More landslides can be expected as climate change exacerbates rainfall intensity – but their impact can be reduced, stresses the UN organization charged with coordinating global disaster risk reduction. "As this week's tragic events in East Asia show once again, people living on unstable slopes and steep terrains are particularly at risk from landslides in the wake of torrential rain and flooding," says Margareta Wahlström who heads the UN International Strategy for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR). "While landslides are hard to predict, people living in landslide-prone areas can be alerted in advance if there are monitoring and warning systems in place to measure rainfalls and soil conditions."
