Disaster Reduction Alliance forum 2010 : 'Building resilient cities'
Disaster Reduction Alliance forum 2010 "Five years since the adoption of the Hyogo Framework of Aaction - Progress on the implementation and Building resilient cities“
Member organizations of the Disaster Reduction Alliance (DRA) will hold various international symposiums and meetings as 15 year-anniversary events of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake in January 2010.
As opening of a series of these events, this forum will not only address challenges of international disaster risk reduction, roles that member organizations of DRA have taken and so on, but also send messages that Kobe will be able to share to raise public attention to the issues of disaster risk reduction. Next year is the halfway point of the target year of the Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA), which was adopted as the ten year action plan and guidelines of disaster risk reduction by the international community at the United Nations World Conference on Disaster Reduction held in Kobe in January 2005.
In the context of the promoting the implementation of the HFA, the United Nations Secretariat of the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR) sets up campaign theme every two years. The 2010-2011 ISDR World Disaster Reduction Campaign will focus on “Building resilient cities”. This forum will aim at contributing to this ISDR global campaign activities through discussions on the progress and challenges in the HFA implementation, and measures to reduce urban risks towards resilient cities
