Building a partnership for disaster risk management based on climate knowledge in Africa

UNISDR Regional Office for Africa and African Centre of Meteorological Applications for Development (ACMAD) will venture into a partnership to establish dialogue between climate scientists and disaster risk managers.

The partnership is aimed providing relevant climate services to be translated by disasters risk managers into risk reduction measures, community centered EWS, local preparedness, response and recovery.

The meeting will draw participants from the Kenya Metereological Services, African Union Commission (AUC), IGAD Climate Prediction and Applications Centre (ICPAC), Africa Development Bank among others.

Through this partnership, UNISDR and ACMAD also aim to benefit key sectors like agriculture, fisheries and water among others to overcome climate-related challenges in the long term.
