Building resilience to disasters in the Western Balkans and Turkey
UNISDR and WMO started in May 2012 the joint implementation of the project “Building Resilience to Disasters in the Western Balkans and Turkey”. The project is supported by the European Commission DG Enlargement through the Instrument for Pre-Accession (IPA). The beneficiaries are Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Kosovo (under UNSCR 1244) and Turkey. The project has a duration of 24 months and will end in May 2014. The overall objective of the Action is to strengthen the resilience of the IPA beneficiaries to disasters.
It will provide an overview of the activities envisaged by this Action and will take the opportunity to raise awareness about this multi-beneficiary Action in Western Balkans and Turkey to a broader audience through a media event which will take place after the opening. The provisional agenda is attached.
The Kick-off Meeting will be followed by the first meeting of the Project Steering Committee which is composed of the National Project Coordinators – the HFA Focal Points (for the UNISDR-related activities) and the Directors of the NMHSs (for the WMO-related activities) of the IPA beneficiaries.
This meeting will be opened only to the National Coordinators and Focal Points of the WMO-related activities, and invited regional organizations.
