Commemoration of the International Day for Disaster Reduction (IDDR) in Kazakhstan

The UNESCO Almaty Cluster Office and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) Central Asia and South Caucasus, in cooperation with the UNICEF Regional Office for Central and Eastern Europe and CIS Almaty Bureau, OCHA Regional Office for Caucasus, Central Asia and Ukraine, UN Department of Public Information and UN-Women are organizing the commemoration of the International Day for Disaster Reduction on 24 October 2016, from 14.00 to 17.30. The event is hosted by the Inter-governmental Centre for Emergency Situations and Disaster Risk Reduction (CESDRR), Almaty, Kazakhstan.
What's Included
The theme of the International Day for Disaster Reduction 2016 is "Live to Tell", with the aim to create a wave of awareness about actions taken around the world to stop disasters from claiming lives. The commemoration of IDDR 2016 in Kazakhstan aims to share best practices, ongoing initiatives and future outlook of reducing mortality in facing hazards and disasters with specific focus on the Central Asia and South Caucasus region.
Committee of Emergency Situations- Kazakhstan, Municipality of the city of Almaty, representatives of youth and universities, Red Cross and Red Crescent Society Kazakhstan and the UN agencies are expected to share experiences on the theme of IDDR 2016 – reducing mortality in disasters.
