About

Join the Regional Dialogue: Empowering the Next Generation for a Resilient Future, a key event of the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction (IDDRR) 2024. Co-organized by UNDRR and CDEMA, the event will take place on Thursday, 9 October 2024, at 10 a.m. Barbados / 9 a.m. Panama.

Held in a hybrid format, it will welcome 30-40 in-person attendees at the University of the West Indies, Barbados, while also offering virtual participation for a global audience. This is a unique opportunity to discuss how youth can lead efforts to build a resilient future in the face of growing disaster risks, exacerbated by climate change.

What to expect:

  • Welcome Remarks by Saskia Carusi, Deputy Chief, UNDRR Office for the Americas and the Caribbean, and Elizabeth Riley, Executive Director of CDEMA
  • Panel Discussion with:
    • Moderator: Simon Alleyne, Programme Officer, Department of Emergency Management, Barbados
    • Ms. Alinne Olvera, Executive Secretary, Youth DRR Network
    • Ms. Kerry Hinds, Director, Department of Emergency Management, Barbados
    • Mr. Taahir Bulbulia, Youth Ambassador, Barbados
    • Dr. Evangeline Inniss-Springer, Director, Disaster Risk Reduction Centre, The University of the West Indies, Barbados
    • Ms. Maria Mystridou, Junior Professional, Delegation of the European Union to Barbados, Eastern Caribbean States, OECS, and CARICOM/CARIFORUM

This dialogue will provide a platform for young leaders, educators, and policymakers to discuss how strategies like the Comprehensive School Safety Framework (CSSF) 2022-2030 can strengthen youth resilience.

Don't miss this opportunity to connect, learn, and take action toward a more resilient future!
