Policy dialogue on 'Disaster risk reduction: an essential contribution to inclusive education': side event of the 48th session of the international conference on education
A Policy dialogue 'Disaster risk reduction: An essential contribution to inclusive education' will group together ministers in charge of education from selected countries who have demonstrated outstanding achievements in promoting the recognition of disaster risk reduction education and school safety initiatives in their respective country or region, together with experts in disaster risk reduction, in order to discuss the challenges faced by Governments in developing an effective education system for disaster risk reduction and disaster resilient school infrastructures.
The discussions will represent golden opportunities to reiterate the importance of broadening the concept of Inclusive Education to Disaster Risk Reduction and of promoting a systematic integration of disaster risk reduction into school curricula and building disaster resilient schools, in order to comply with the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), UNESCO’s Education For All initiative, and the Hyogo Framework for Action Priority 3 (HFA - Building the Resilience of Communities and Nations to Disasters, 2005-2015) promoting a universal right for safe education for all and global culture of resilience and safety.
