Screening of ‘The Wave’ followed by a debate on tsunami risk in lakes and fjords

Format
In person
Venue
Empire Cinema
Date

As tsunami risk is not always associated with lakes, UNISDR will take the opportunity of being in Geneva to raise awareness this year about the tsunami risk linked to the geology of lake and will show “The Wave” at the Empire cinema as part and in collaboration of the ONU Cine activities.

The Wave (Norwegian: Bølgen) is a 2015 Norwegian catastrophe drama film directed by Roar Uthaug. It tells a true story and is based on a rock-slide tsunami incident which destroyed the village of Tafjord on 7 April 1934, killing 40 people in Norway.

After the film, UNISDR will invite participants to debate on the film issues in presence of Stéphanie Girardclos from the University of Geneva. Petra Nemcova, survivor of the 2004 tsunami in the Indian Ocean will be also present and will say a couple of words about tsunami risks and her personal experience in 2004.
