Strengthening the Role of the African Private Sector in Disaster Risk Management
Many low and middle-income countries have developed national strategies for disaster risk reduction. But ensuring the inclusion of all sectors of society, especially the private sector, remains a challenge. This year’s International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction on 13 October will focus on the importance of international cooperation and partnerships, Target F of the Sendai Framework. This is an opportunity to reaffirm the role of the private sector in reducing the impacts of human-induced and natural hazards in disaster-prone countries. The UNDP-OCHA Connecting Business initiative (CBi) and UNDRR ARISE Africa are holding a joint webinar on “Strengthening the Role of the African Private Sector in Disaster Management” to highlight good practices, as well as challenges, in public-private partnerships. Participants shall gain awareness of the different opportunities for private sector engagement in disaster risk management in Sub-Saharan Africa. This session will help strengthen the role of private sector networks in disaster risk reduction.
