Investor Advisory Board

Responding to the call from governments to engage the private sector in scaling up investment in disaster risk reduction, UNDRR has established an Investor Advisory Board (IAB).

Objectives

The IAB aims to mobilize public and private investment for preventing disasters and increasing the resilience of societies. It develops the tools and methodologies needed to turn investors’ commitments into action. As such, it accelerates progress towards the Sendai Framework and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Pillars

The IAB has structured its work around three pillars:

  • Standards that public and private-sector investors can look to for measuring their focus on reducing disaster risks
  • Funding initiatives that public sector institutions can use in mobilizing capital investment into resiliency
  • Innovative investment solutions that IAB members pioneer to demonstrate their feasibility and create a market

Engagement

To multiply impact, the IAB also engages the large finance community behind its objectives, including through the establishment of a consultative group of asset owners (e.g., sovereign wealth fund, pension funds, and insurance companies). This allows the IAB to mobilize the market and obtain feedback on its proposed solutions.
