The International Day for Disaster Reduction

8 October 2008 raises the profile of disaster risk reduction, and encourages every citizen and government to take part in building more resilient communities and nations. The theme of this year's observance of the International Day for Disaster Reduction is abstracted from the 2008-2009: World Disaster Reduction Campaign: Hospitals Safe from Disasters “Hospitals Safe from Disasters”, which is jointly arranged by United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction secretariat (UN/ISDR) and World Health Organization (WHO).
