National Consultation Workshop: Mid-Term Review of the Implementation of the Sendai Framework 2015-2030 for the Arab Region – Kuwait
Kuwait, 4 July 2022 | The UNDRR ROAS and the Kuwait Fire Force organized a National consultation workshop: Mid-Term Review (MTR) of the implementation of the Sendai Framework (SF) 2015-2030 for the Arab Region.
The consultation brought more than 90 participants from 40 governmental and non-governmental organizations, DRR stakeholders (civil society, private sector, science and technology communities, and academia), UN agencies, and international organizations in Kuwait to collect information on the implementation of the Sendai Global Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction and to put forward recommended measures to accelerate progress towards achieving its objectives by 2030.
The Chief of the Kuwait Fire Force, Lieutenant-General Khaled Al-Mekrad, and the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Kuwait, Dr. Tarek El-Sheikh, inaugurated the workshop.
"We are preparing a list of the risks that are expected to occur in the country to be endorsed by the United Nations, and accordingly, all concerned authorities in the country will work on how to deal with these risks and coordinate among them," said Al-Mekrad.
The consultation focused on the retrospective review of what has been accomplished during 2015-2022 and the prospective review of 2023-2030, seeking to gain new perspectives and insights through working group discussions and public discussions.
The workshop came to facilitate stocktaking on progress, identifying changes in context, and developing recommendations for prioritized, accelerated, and integrated cooperation and action in Kuwait.
The consultation results will support the preparation of the voluntary national report for Kuwait by its Government and the regional report for the mid-term review of the Sendai Framework in the Arab Region prepared by the UNDRR.
