While I wish I could be with you in person, I am delighted to send this message for the first regional launch of the Early Warnings for All initiative. I thank Barbados, CARICOM and the Caribbean Disaster Management Agency for hosting and organizing.

The CREWS Caribbean initiative’s purpose is to support Caribbean countries in their efforts to increase their weather and climate services and to generate and communicate effective, impact-based and gender-responsive MHEWS and risk information.

The “Regional Launch of the Early Warnings for All Initiative (EW4ALL) for the Caribbean” aims to drive coordinated political action towards strengthening multi-hazard early warning systems.

The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction is drafting a Words Into Action guide to create the enabling environment to promote beneficial cooperation among policy-makers, science/academia/technology communities and society to reduce risk.

23 Palestinian cities till now are on the pathway to resilience, pledging to make the cities safer, preventing risks, and promoting innovation and investments.

I congratulate India on assuming the Presidency of the G20 from Indonesia and commend India’s Presidency on the decision to establish the first G20 working group on Disaster Risk Reduction.

The estimated insured losses from disasters in 2022 were a staggering US $120 billion – but this represents just the tip of the iceberg.

The agenda features 37 sessions, including 4 high-level sessions, 8 parallel sessions, 2 special sessions, 8 learning labs and 15 side events.

The International Organization for Migration’s (IOM) Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) has joined the Making Cities Resilient (MCR2030) initiative as a supporting entity.
