Kulhudhuffushi City, Maldives, has made great strides to strengthen its resilience after joining Making Cities Resilient 2030

On International Women’s Day 2023, we celebrate the women who are transforming disaster risk reduction planning and implementation to make it more gender responsive and inclusive and therefore more effective.

Among the MCR2030 success stories of 2022 are numerous cities like Kulhuffushi City in the Maldives and Ormoc and Baguio City in the Philippines that are currently developing local disaster risk reduction (DRR) plans.

On August 5, 2022, Makati declared a climate emergency, calling for much-needed environmental reform. The Philippines city is implementing initiatives to reduce carbon emissions, promote renewable energy and conservation, and create green jobs

UNDRR conducted a two-day training on “Urban Resilience and Making Cities Resilient 2030” in cooperation with the Office of Civil Defense in the Philippines from 19 October 2022.

At the High School Students Summit on World Tsunami Awareness Day 2022 in Niigata, Japan, students from around the world gathered – both virtually and in person – to discuss, learn, and reaffirm their commitment to disaster risk reduction.

The City of Makati in the Philippines is named as the second Resilience Hub of Making Cities Resilient 2030 (MCR2030) in the Asia-Pacific region.

The Maldives held a national workshop, with support from UNDRR, to kick-start developing an integrated disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation strategy. The strategy will offer a common basis for implementation across sectors and levels.

New Zealand's The Pacific Risk Tool for Resilience (PARTneR) project aims to tailor a multi-hazard risk analysis tool to inform disaster risk management in Pacific Island countries, with pilots in Samoa and Vanuatu.

Communities possess local experiences that allow them to adapt and respond to disasters. Knowledge exchange between the UK, Nepal and Thailand is helping researchers better understand and explore solutions to the risks facing these communities.
