Europe today began its annual talks on curbing the threat of natural and man-made hazards, with the aim of accelerating efforts to achieve the goals of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction.

A week ago today, Italy was struck by a 6.2 earthquake which has claimed at least 292 lives. The Italian Prime Minister, Mr. Matteo Renzi, has announced that a new national earthquake preparedness plan is under preparation.
