At an Africa Climate Week event, UNDRR heard from three African countries on their work to blend climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction to best help vulnerable communities.

The Climate Risk and Early Warning Systems (CREWS) initiative launched the "Greater Horn of Africa: Strengthening early warning and early action systems for meteorological, hydrological, and climate extremes" project.

The Resilience Building and Disaster Response Management in the Indian Ocean (RDRM-IO) programme UNDRR component was launched on 22 March 2022.

On 28 February 2022, the official handover ceremony for the Africa Multi-hazard Early Warning and Early Action System (AMHEWAS) Situation Room for Disaster Risk Reduction took place

UNDRR accompanied an Italian delegation led by the Director Mr. Luca Maestripieri from the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS).

On 25 November 2021, a four-day Training Academy on disaster risk reduction and early warning systems took place. Experts responsible for disaster risk management and meteorological/hydrological services from IGAD, IGAD Member States, Southern Africa Development Community (SADC), as well as Malawi, Mozambique and the Republic of Tanzania participated.

On 23 November 2021, an exit workshop was held on the Government of Italy funded project on “Disaster Risk Reduction Capacity Building in Ethiopia”. Experts gathered to share main outcomes, exchange experience, and discuss the way forward.

On 19 November 2021, the Seventh High-level Meeting for Disaster Risk Reduction was held in Nairobi, Kenya in hybrid format.

On 17 November 2021, the Government of Republic of Kenya officially opened the 8th Africa Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction as the host country.

The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Climate Prediction and Application Centre (ICPAC) was officially opened by His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta in Nairobi.
