On 15-17 November 2022, UNDRR, in partnership with the UN Resident Coordinator Office & the national strategic entity (CPGU) and operational entity (BNGRC) for disaster management hosted the first Disaster Risk Reduction Retreat in Madagascar.

While in Mauritius for National Tsunami Awareness Day, the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) took the opportunity to learn about the country’s Disaster Risk Reduction efforts.

After tropical cyclone Eloise hit Eswatini in 2021, the country’s National Disaster Management Agency’s (NDMA) ‘Build Back Better’ program kicked in to help build nearly 800 homes over the next year.

Partners in the Building Climate Resistance for the Urban Poor (BCRUP) initiative met in Nairobi on 7 September 2022 to step-up climate action for some of the world’s most vulnerable communities.

A workshop in Seychelles held 31 August 2022 – 2 September 2022 aimed to get Island States talking about shared experiences and legal solutions.

At an Africa Climate Week event, UNDRR heard from three African countries on their work to blend climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction to best help vulnerable communities.

The Climate Risk and Early Warning Systems (CREWS) initiative launched the "Greater Horn of Africa: Strengthening early warning and early action systems for meteorological, hydrological, and climate extremes" project.
