The capacity for disaster reduction initiative (CADRI) is a global partnership composed of 16 UN and non-UN organizations that works towards strengthening countries’ capacities to prevent, manage and recover from the impact of disasters. The CADRI partnership draws upon the diversity of expertise of its members to offer a unique combination of knowledge, experience and resources to support countries implement the sendai framework for disaster risk reduction.
Reducing climate and disaster risks calls for a holistic approach working within and across sectors and at all levels. The CADRI partnership has responded to country demands with practical and integrated support services to help address the challenges of multi-sectoral coordination and fragmentation.
CADRI offers a wide range of services ranging from: technical advice to set up integrated, multi-hazard risk information systems; technical advice to integrate climate and disaster risk in development planning; to technical advice to optimize national systems for preparedness for response and recovery. In this respect, CADRI partners jointly developed a capacity assessment and planning tool covering 10 sectors from agriculture, to infrastructure to health and education. The CADRI methodology has been rolled out in more than 30 countries.
CADRI services are delivered through the deployment of multi sectoral expertise from across the UN and international red cross and red crescent movement; Referral services to access funding and technical assistance; South-South and triangular cooperation; and specialized training.
Over the past six years, the CADRI partners achieved the following results:
• 28 DRR capacity assessments facilitated through inclusive country led processes
• 19 National Multi Sectoral Plans of Action for Disaster Risk Reduction developed
• 2000+ professionals from governments, UN, NGOs, Red Cross/Crescent societies trained

The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
