Wellthy Corporation (hereafter referred to as Wellthy) is a private enterprise, established in 1985. Wellthy's main business is to design, procure, construct, sell and maintain water treatment systems.
Wellthy's water treatment system is a small-scale, decentralized and community-based water supply system. I supplies potable-level water using existing ewater sources with pump and purifier. By combining slow filtration systems with turbidity remover, the system removes turbidity, virus, bacteria, anti-chlorine pathogenic insects, iron, manganese and arsenic from the original water. The use of this system, on top of public water supply, reduces the risk of suspension of water supply at the time of a disaster.
As of March 2013, more than 950 facilities such as hospitals and factories all over Japan, have installed Wellthy's water treatment systems.
Wellthy will leverage its expertise and strengths as a private enterprise.
As the lesson from the Great East Japan Earthquake has taught, it is important that facilities like hospitals adopt and disseminate the idea of dual use of utilities. Therefore, Wellthy will leverage it's expertise and knowledge on small-scale water treatment systsms such as the "Groundwater Membrane Filtration System" (GMFS).
The focus is to contribute to resilience of health facilities. Hospitals are prioritized as they need to become more resilient in order to safe patients' lives when disasters occur.
Wellthy is a member of the Disaster Risk Reduction - Private Sector Partnership (DRR-PSP) and has committed to the 5 Essentials for Business in Disaster Risk Reduction.
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
