3rd annual meeting of the European Forum for Disaster Risk Reduction: summary
This document provides a day by day report of the 3rd EFDRR meeting, which intended to serve as the forum for exchanging information and knowledge, coordinating efforts throughout the Europe region and for providing advocacy for effective action to reduce disasters. It summarizes: (i) the key points highlighted by the speakers during the opening session; (ii) the nomination of the champion of local change that reward increased awareness on citizen engagement towards building resilience; (iii) the outcomes and recommendations of the post-2015 Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA) discussions; (iv) a summary of the key elements, which cover climate change adaptation (CCA), sustainable development, risk assessment, governance, urban planning, mapping, floods, public awareness, schools and hospitals.
It continues with: (v) a national platform review; (vi) a briefing on EFDRR presence and its participation in main international events in 2012, including Rio+20; (vii) an update from regional/sub-regional organizations; (viii) a presentation of the city of Dubrovnik and its knowledge on disaster and reconstruction from earthquakes; (ix) the outcomes of an information sharing and exchange working group; (x) the recommendations of a local level implementation of the HFA working group; (xi) the outcomes of a climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction (DRR) working group ; (xii) a briefing on the preparation of the Presidential South Eastern European Summit on DRR and CCA; and (xiii) the main elements and highlights for EFDRR to provide input for 2012.
