Communiqué from Nuevo Vallarta, Nayarit, Mexico on lines of action to strengthen disaster risk reduction in the Americas
In this communiqué, the participants of the second session of the Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in the Americas, held in Nuevo Vallarta, Nayarit, Mexico, March 15-17, express the need to prioritise disaster risk reduction (DRR) at the highest level of action as well as the development of a hemispheric development agenda. It reaffirms the commitment of the participants to the guiding principles of DRR and climate change adaptation and strongly encourages the consideration of these priorities defined by the institutions and governments of the Americas. It also gives a set of recommendations to the upcoming Third Session of the Global Platform for DRR.
The communiqué also builds on the Hyogo Framework for Action 2005-2015, the United Nations General Assembly Resolution, the Declaration of the Incheon Conference, the decisions adopted by the Climate Change Conference in Cancun, the Cancun Declaration of the XXI Summit of the Rio Group and the Latin America and Caribbean II Summit on Integration and Development to reaffirm the role of the Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in the Americas and to underscore progress being achieved toward DRR.
