Conclusions and recommendations of the meeting on the institutional framework for disaster risk reduction in Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia and Africa
This paper highlights some aspects of a meeting with subregional, regional and international organizations specializing in disaster risk reduction held in Panama City, on 13 and 14 December 2010 on: (i) the institutional framework for disaster risk reduction in Latin America and the Caribbean, including the preparation of national progress reports on the implementation of the Hyogo Action Plan and the importance of promoting the World Campaign for Disaster Reduction Building Resilient Cities: "My city is preparing"; (ii) the work programmes of relevant institutions specializing in disaster risk reduction.
It also takes note of forthcoming seminars and launch to be held in 2011; and gives some recommendations: (i) regarding the Forum on Cooperation and Coordination of the Regional Mechanisms for Disaster Risk Reduction in the Americas; (ii) for the to inclusion of Disaster Risk Reduction in development policies and planning processes, especially regarding facilities such as schools, hospitals and public transport; (iii) for the promotion of contents and practices related to disaster risk reduction in school curricula and community programmes; and (iv) for the promotion of systematic South-South cooperation actions on disaster risk reduction, among others.
