Disaster reduction for sustainable mountain development
2002 United Nations World disaster reduction campaign
This booklet on “Disaster Reduction for Sustainable Mountain Development” is the 2002’s World Disaster Reduction Campaign chosen theme. The theme was selected for two reasons; First, because mountain communities are particularly vulnerable to natural disasters and they will benefit from the information and experiences mentioned in this booklet. Second, the theme was selected in parallel to the celebration of the International Year of Mountains by the United Nations in 2002, under the leadership of the UN’s Food and Agricultural Organization, whose aim is to promote sustainable mountain development worldwide.
