VII Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in the Americas and the Caribbean is postponed
MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica, March 18, 2020 – As a result of the impact and uncertainty created by the spread of COVID-19, the Government of Jamaica, the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) and the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) have decided to postpone the VII Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in the Americas and the Caribbean, originally scheduled to be held in Montego Bay in July 2020. Options to reschedule the event at a more suitable time are currently being considered.
While we regret this decision, we consider it appropriate to guarantee the safety of all in the current context as well as to ensure that our valued stakeholders will receive clarity on the scheduling status of this important signature event. We also understand that dealing with the pandemic is the priority of governments and of many of the institutions involved in the organization of the Regional Platform. We look forward to re-engaging with you when the new dates for the event are confirmed.
