Throughout West & Central Africa, UNICEF promotes a protective environment for children through a range of activities and programs. UNICEF supports data collection, prevention through community based activities and the reinforcement of legal systems.
UNICEF contributes to strengthening the capacities of households, communities and institutions to manage and recover from shocks that undermine children’s survival, well-being and development. The implemented initiatives contribute to strengthening multi-sectorial efforts, ensuring the reach of the most vulnerable and marginalized populations, all while fostering partnerships to ensure efficiency and a holistic approach. In particular, UNICEF in West and Central Africa contributes to DRR mainstreaming at all levels, including national level, while implementing capacity building initiatives for Risk and Vulnerability Assessments, developing national and community based Early Warning/ Early Action systems, and coordinating DRR initiatives through national platforms.
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
