UNICs, of which there are about 24 in Africa and altogether 69 in the world, are the principal local sources of public information about the United Nations system. UNICs the world over try to assist the United Nations achieve the purpose for which it was created by keeping the peoples of the world fully informed of its aims and activities.
UNIC provides information materials to a diverse local audience. It collaborates, for example, with governments, NGOs, the private sector in outreach efforts to promote development, which is at the centre of all UN activities.
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
