UNDRR hosted virtual briefing on Sendai framework voluntary commitments for stakeholders in the Arab region

22 July 2024 – The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), in collaboration with its Regional Office for Arab States (ROAS) and the Kobe Office, conducted a virtual briefing on the Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform.

The SFVC platform serves as a vital tool for promoting all-of-society and multi-stakeholder engagement in implementing the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. By publishing Voluntary Commitments (VCs) on the platform, stakeholders can inform the public about their initiatives, learn from one another, and showcase best practices in disaster risk management.

The main objectives of this session included (1) understanding the SFVC platform, as participants gained insights into the background and significance of the SFVC, enhancing engagement across the region; (2) submissions of voluntary commitments, where attendees learned the process for submitting VCs and the benefits of participation; (3) showcasing success stories, stakeholders shared their experiences with the SFVC platform, demonstrating how their commitments made a positive impact in their communities; and (4) interactive Q&A session, where participants had the opportunity to ask questions and discuss their ideas on DRR with experts.

During the webinar, stakeholders who successfully published their commitments shared valuable insights, including efforts to strengthen community responses to disasters in Yemen, initiatives to grow forests in Lebanon, and experiences with the platform's use in Asia.
