APMCDRR 2024 Co-Chairs' Statement
This is the Co-Chairs' Statement of the 2024 Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (APMCDRR). The deliberations of the Conference were informed by the national voluntary reports for the Mid-term Review of the Sendai Framework, the Regional and Thematic Mid-term Reviews, and the priorities identified by the UN General Assembly political declaration on the Mid-term Review of the Sendai Framework, adopted in New York in May 2023 as well as the Gender Action Plan on the Implementation of the Sendai Framework and the Early Warnings for All initiative.
Leveraging the outcomes of key processes at the global and regional level was deemed necessary to advance the sustainable development agenda and the DRR priorities, such as the 10th Water Forum 2024 In Indonesia, the 4th International Conference on Small Island Developing States 2024 in Antigua and Barbuda, the 53rd Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting in Tonga, and the Summit of the Future 2024 at the UN in New York, as well as the upcoming UNFCCC COP 29 in Azerbaijan, the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development, the United Nations Ocean Conference in France, the Diplomatic Conference of Plenipotentiaries to adopt a Plastic Pollution Treaty, and the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in Switzerland in 2025. There remains a strong need to accelerate collective actions in an integrated fashion towards the achievement of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, the Agenda for Humanity, the New Urban Agenda, and the Antigua and Barbuda Agenda for SIDS. Participants also welcomed the United Nations Secretary-General’s Call to Action on Extreme Heat.
