Evaluation of the Sendai Framework monitoring system (Executive summary)
The main objectives of the evaluation were to promote learning and accountability of disaster data, to assess the return on investment in DRR activities, and to identify good practices and challenges from Member States regarding the SFM user experience. The Sendai Framework Monitor (SFM) is the official data source for Member States to monitor and report national disaster data, covering the seven global targets, 38 indicators, and optional disaggregated data.
Some of the key recommendations from the evaluation of the Sendai Framework monitoring system include:
- Improve technical capacity-building support for Member States, especially the least developed countries, small island developing States and landlocked developing countries, focusing on targets that pose challenges in data collection and analyses.
- Work closely with Member States to enhance the DRR legal framework, institutional setup, coordination between national disaster management offices and national statistical offices, and talent retention.
- Further align countries' DRR policies and standards with the Sendai Framework to increase the use and effectiveness of SFM data.
