Disaster Risk Reduction Adviser, Private Sector - Fiji (Voluntary)

Work with the United Nations to raise awareness among the private sector in the Pacific - one of the most hazard-prone regions in the world - about the importance of disaster risk reduction.
This is a volunteer assignment under the Australian Volunteers for International Development (AVID) program, an Australian Government initiative. Airfares, living allowances, accommodation, insurance and other support is provided through the program.
The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) is at the heart of a global partnership to build a world in which nations and communities are resilient to the risks of disasters and climate change, enabling them to develop and prosper sustainably.
As the Pacific is one of the most hazard-prone regions in the world, resilience of the private sector is critical to ensure sustainable development. Since 2013, UNISDR Pacific has had success in engaging with the private sector by providing training opportunities and hosting events.
An AVID volunteer is being sought to help build upon this work to boost the private sector's capacity to become resilient by developing tools and training that will increase engagement in disaster risk reduction.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Significant experience in disaster risk reduction
- Experience working in and with the private sector
- Qualifications in disaster risk reduction
- Self awareness, cultural sensitivity, flexibility and adaptability, resilience
