The Africa Union Commission will convene a regional workshop for the East Africa region in collaboration with the East African Community (EAC) and the UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR) in Arusha. The Workshop aims to accelerate action in the implementation of the Africa Regional Strategy on disaster risk reduction (DRR) and its Programme of Action in order to reduce the vulnerabilities of EAC Member States to disasters.

Objectives of the workshop
- Facilitate joint planning between EAC, its Member States and partners
- Strengthen coordination between AUC, EAC and its Member States
- Support establishment and strengthening of sub-regional and national platforms as well as facilitating networking and information sharing on progress and challenges faced by various actors
