The Council of Europe (COE) is an international organization based in Strasbourg, France. Its main role is to strengthen democracy, human rights and the rule of law throughout its member states. Its work programme includes the following fields of activity: human rights, media, legal co-operation, social and economic questions, health, education, culture, heritage, sport, youth, local democracy and transfrontier co-operation, the environment and regional planning.
It focuses on setting standards, monitoring compliance, and cooperating with states to combat issues such as violence, corruption, cybercrime, discrimination, and terrorism. The COE also protects freedoms, including speech, media, privacy, and minority rights, while promoting democratic citizenship, human rights education, and cultural heritage. Additionally, it addresses emerging challenges such as artificial intelligence, bioethics, and environmental protection.
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
