Engage with UNDRR
Engage with UNDRR by collaborating across sectors to promote resilience and risk-informed decision-making, aligning with global frameworks.

Engage with UNDRR

Building resilience and promoting risk-informed decision-making and investment are collective challenges and responsibilities, which call upon a collaboration between governments, the United Nations and other international organizations and stakeholder groups at large.

Aligned with the Sendai Framework and in coherence with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Paris Climate Agreement, cross-sectoral partnerships beyond the traditional disaster risk reduction community are important to successfully address the significantly broadened scope and complexity of today’s risk landscape.

ARISE

The UNDRR Private Sector Alliance for Disaster Resilient Societies (ARISE) is a key vehicle for UNDRR to promote and enable close collaboration between the public and private sector in support of sustainable, resilient communities and long-term business returns. ARISE consists of national and regional networks, governed by a global Board co-chaired by the SRSG and a private sector representative.

MCR2030

The ultimate goal of MCR2030 is to ensure cities become inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable by 2030, contributing directly to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 11 (SDG11) and other global frameworks including the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, the Paris Agreement and the New Urban Agenda

PreventionWeb

Launched in 2007, PreventionWeb is the world’s only global knowledge platform on disaster risk and resilience. The platform ensures that local, national, regional and global efforts to reduce disaster risk and increase resilience are strengthened by international knowledge exchange and networking amongst DRR actors and the wider global community.

Stakeholder Engagement Mechanism

To operationalize the all-of-society approach called for by the Sendai Framework in support of effective disaster risk reduction at all levels, in 2018 UNDRR established the Stakeholder Engagement Mechanism (SEM). Aligned with the UNDRR Partnership and Stakeholder Strategy, the UNDRR-SEM offers representational space for all ‘non-state’ Sendai stakeholders as set out in Paragraph (36) and (48) of the Sendai Framework.

SEM aims to leverage the voice and action of stakeholders in support of the implementation of the Sendai Framework and integration of disaster risk reduction into the broader 2030 Agenda.

Voluntary Commitments

The platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their efforts while also sharing good practices and exploring synergies to maximize impact towards disaster resilience. Stakeholders working on DRR, including private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc., can submit and update their commitments. Stakeholders can show their contribution to the Sendai Framework and may also get their achievements highlighted through the platform.

Women's Leadership and Women’s International Network on Disaster Risk Reduction (WIN DRR)

Women’s equal participation and leadership in public life, including disaster risk reduction, is both an important goal in itself and essential for reducing disaster risk and achieving a broad range of sustainable development goals.

Women’s participation in decision-making is enshrined in international human rights frameworks, including the Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women, yet there is still great disparity in the number of women playing a leadership role in disaster risk management.
