The CIMA Research Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing research, technology, and training in engineering and environmental sciences for public health, civil protection, and ecosystem preservation. Specializing in disaster risk mitigation, it focuses on hydrometeorological risks like floods and wildfires, developing mathematical models for forecasting and prevention. Its research has expanded to include wildfire forest biodiversity, satellite data analysis, risk assessment, and marine ecosystems, particularly in the Pelagos Sanctuary. The foundation also engages in regulatory review, legal compliance, and forensic investigation related to risk management. Beyond research, it emphasizes knowledge dissemination through training and technological development.
The foundation envisions a world where science, awareness, and behavior intersect to mitigate risks effectively and promote sustainable development. It recognizes the integral role of risk reduction in societal progress, advocating for the accessibility of technical-scientific knowledge to policymakers and citizens. This collaborative approach fosters awareness and behavioral changes, aligning development with risk mitigation for the betterment of communities worldwide.
CIMA Research Foundation activities focus on three main areas:
- Research and Development;
- Services and Technological Transfer;
- Strengthening Capacities and Training.
Disaster Reduction Goal

The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
