Global risk analysis and reporting

Global Risk Analysis

The Global Risk Analysis and Reporting Section (GRAR) helps partners enhance understanding of the changing nature of risk and to scale up and accelerate solutions for resilience.

"Policies and practices for disaster risk management should be based on an understanding of disaster risk in all its dimensions of vulnerability, capacity, exposure of persons and assets, hazard characteristics and the environment. Such knowledge can be leveraged for the purpose of pre-disaster risk assessment, for prevention and mitigation and for the development and implementation of appropriate preparedness and effective response to disasters."

Our innovative solutions for resilience

Risk Knowledge and Innovation

To help reduce the impact of disasters in the world's most vulnerable countries, UNDRR works to strengthen the analysis of multi-dimensional risk for humanitarian and development planning processes.

Risk Assessment and Analysis

UNDRR helps catalyze enhanced risk knowledge and innovation through knowledge products such as the Global Assessment Reports and the briefing and technical notes on key emerging issues.

Science, Policy and Partnerships

The role of global science, academia, research and innovation is enshrined in the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, where it is recognized for the catalytic, boundary-pushing and transformative potential it holds for addressing the dynamic drivers of disaster risk.

Foresight and Futures

Understanding how development choices impact the creation or reduction of future risk is essential to build up resilience. UNDRR works with partners to explore new frontiers of risk and their implication for the future.
